Thoughts on Gun Control by Dead White Men

3rd US President, Thomas Jefferson

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government".

“Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.”

“The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.”

Tyranny in Government is already here, it's just hidden behind the facade of "Democracy."

They are going to try and take away our guns, IN THE NAME OF THE CHILDREN, so that they no longer have to put up the charade of Governance by "We the People."

When they do come...

Jefferson was the Third President.

We can never be certain as to who said what and to whom, and when. However, the idea, and ideal, remains. A beautiful philosophy for our modern youth to embrace.

Well, I did for three years - seven, actually, if you count my years at a state U.

I think it is important to get facts 100% correct, to make an impervious barrier to critics who would take one or two pieces of misinformation and mock the movement over lack of rigor. If the facts are incorrect, the rhetoric can't be much better, no? Well, yes, it can be, but it's best to have all the ducks in line and glossy.

Sorry for being a pedant; I hope pedants occasionally serve a good purpose.

You are correct....one of the tactics of the ideological opponent is to seize on such errors as a means to dismiss an entire argument.

I actually made this post last night after wading through 10 pages of a political debate forum of the typical left/right gun control thread. The leftists and pro-gun control morons were arguing that the 2nd Amendment had to do with only militia members and nothing to do with preventing Government tyranny.

One of the writers of that document certainly was clear on his reasoning.

I wish that was the case, but the people you will argue with on guns don't care about facts. Have all the facts you want, they will resort to emotion. Even if your facts are absolutely, 100% irreproachable, the gun-grabber you are arguing with will just deny they are true, call them made up, or out of context, or as a last resort, irrelevant.

Sad, it is, but we're wasting our time polishing our arguments and making them watertight. The other side just doesn't care, and while we're busy getting our facts straight, they're scaring the hell out of everybody else with made up ones.

To quote another dead white male, Winston Churchill, a lie is half way around the world before the truth has it's boots on. We need to lace 'em up a little quicker.

My suspicion is that the whole debate over gun control right now is a false flag. I don't believe that Obama and his henchmen really think they can pull off anything more than a few minor restrictions here and there.

I think that their real objective is to implement some kind of mandatory mental-health screening for all 'children' (which Obamacare defines as under age 26). Obama's alluded to it a couple of times, though discreetly shadowing it under the gun debate.

Mandatory screening was proposed by Hillary Clinton in the 1990's as part of her failed healthcare iniative. They wanted to include it in Obamacare, but thought it would be too controversial. My suspicion is that they plan to back off on the gun rhetoric to bribe the Republicans into supporting screening as an expansion to Obamacare.
