I think the greater tragedy of this situation is Paul had previously lost his long love and wife to breast cancer. He stood by her side and took care of her until she passed away.

She took advantage of a widowed person. If a man had done the same to a women they would have been bashed down.

This women showed who she is, a heartless, selfish, gold-digger.
