Big Ben...Rape or Gold Dig?

This woman, Andrea McNulty claims Pittsburgh Steeler's QB, Ben Roethlisberger, raped her a little over a year ago, and she has now filed a multi-million $$ civil lawsuit.

Am I skeptical? Hell yes I am...there has been far too many cases as of late for which a woman claims rape by a high profile celebrity, and goes for the $$$ rather than real justice.

There was no criminal case filed...it's literally a he-said, she-said, civil case at this point. This is a legal travesty that in fact Ben was never arrested, never allowed the right to a speedy trial or the right to have a jury trial. No, this accuser gets to simply file a lawsuit claiming damages so she can get as much $$ as possible.

If you were really, truly raped, than a CRIME has been committed, and the proper channel's to deal with it is supposed to be the criminal courts...not civil court.

Furthermore, I'm betting the end game here is to extort Ben into settling out of court for an undisclosed sum.

I think this points to a current legal reality that needs some serious attention, and my solution is simple:

A civil case regarding damages caused by supposed criminal activity SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED UNLESS A CONVICTION PROVING THE GUILT HAS BEEN ATTAINED.

I.e....celebrities worth millions of dollars should be immune from civil lawsuits regarding rape (or any other serious charges) unless they are convicted and proven beyond a reasonable doubt to have committed the crime.

Finally...take a good look at this woman's picture. Does it really pass the smell test?

A high profile, multi-millionaire athlete...the starting QB of the recent, Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers -- does he really NEED to rape a lady like this?

Let's face it...she's obviously not getting a modeling contract anytime soon....

Please. Ben could simply show face at any bar or club in the country and walk out of there with a bevvy of ladies that would jump at the opportunity to sleep with a high profile, rich celebrity athlete.

As far as celebrities being immune from civil suits, I am in the middle, I mean I was happy when O.J. Simpson got hammered in a civil suit after he was acquitted of a double murder. But I definitely understand your point. Excellent post anyway.

EXCELLENT point. A high-status man such as Roethlisberger can get any woman he wants - why would he resort to rape? Notice how nobody in the MSM ever brings THAT up when it comes to these high-profile rape stories.

There are some sick individuals out there that might prefer raping a woman. Alcohol and/or drugs could always be a factor too. People can act on stupid impulses like this. Rape is rarely based on sexual gratification anyway. There are usually darker motives. Some people just enjoy the control. I am not defending the case here. She's probably a gold digger. Just providing a different perspective. Some human behavior cannot be explained. How often do you see human beings acting rationally and using sound reason?

If that's the case, then explain why people like serial rapist Ted Bundy always choose young attractive females to rape, and not say ugly old women, who would be much easier to "control", if such was their motivation. Also, if people want the feeling of being "in control" of a woman, all they have to do is purchase a hooker. There's one on most every street corner and they're happy to accommodate eccentric tastes.

If rape was about controlling someone and not sexual gratification with an unattainably attractive partner, there wouldn't be any feminists. They would have all gotten laid at some point and thus had no reason to invent grievances to mask their REAL "problem with no name".

Well, I'll never have that problem for two reasons.

1. I'm not a rich celebrity.
2. I avoid women like the plague.

HL,

This DEFINITELY doesn't pass the smell test! One, Big Ben could snap his fingers, and get 10 of the hottest women around to boff his brains out. Two, WTF would he boff an UGLY bitch like the one in the pic?! I mean really...

this is where the feminist's argument that "rape is about power not attraction" comes in handy for them. tripe like that is put out there just to hammer guys like roethlisberger.

by their definitions (and even some inane legal definitions) *every man* in this country has probably been guilty of rape at some point. if you even try to butter a girl up to get her to do the deed that is considered rape by some, and it's now becoming looked down upon. it's really fucking scary actually.

i'd like to go back to the old-fashioned definition of rape, you know, the one we see on Lifetime movies that rarely happens anymore. it involves a gun, a knife, or physical violence of some sort on the part of a man trying to have sex with a woman completely against her will.

I don't disagree with you at all. Like I said, this chick is probably a gold digger. There are some really bizarre people out there. There have been many cases where some 18 year old, otherwise healthy looking punk, raping 80 year old women. Crazy stuff happens. I am not one to side with the feminazis, but I am just saying weirder stuff has happened.

Also, she claims that Harrah's covered up everything. That I could buy cause I worked at a Harrah's casino as a security supervisor. If this one is anything like the one I worked for then they are corrupt as heck.
Once again, just perspective. I don't trust her story. But Harrah's really does suck. I'm just saying.

I happen to think OJ did it,because unlike most people I know his motive, which was actually on the news.It was apparent that she was provoking him to violence by engaging in outrageous behavior while the girls were in the house, so she could file to have his parental rights taken away while still getting all that beautiful money which she felt entitled to.

And it is also apparent that her mother and sisters were helping her do it.

While she was claiming she feared he would kill her, her actions showed she didn't believe it at all. If she had, she would have stopped oral sex with men in front of her open curtains, or used some of that large amount of money to hire security to keep him out.

Yet, I do agree if there is no conviction, there should be no civil suit for the alleged crime. This is part of the collapse of the Constitution.

This is all part of the motivation of an increasing number of men who are avoiding marriage, and in many cases, also avoiding women altogether. the biggest complaint by women today is the refusal of men "to make a commitment."

Waaa! Waaa! Please keep on with your vile anti-male programs. Any day now you will be torturing men so badly they will buckle down and get married. Hee, hee.

Regardless of the truth about this, are you really saying that women who aren't model beautiful are unlikely to be raped? 25% of all women have been raped. Are 25% of all women model-beautiful? I just thought that comment was juvenile, making the rest of your blog difficult to take seriously. Sorry...

In fact, most of the episodes during the series' earliest seasons were adaptations from the radio YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES, rewritten only to adjust to the unique characterizations supplied by the four main actors. Though the program trailed behind its NBC competition The George Gobel show during its inaugural season, it quickly gained grown during season two, and by its third year on the air YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES DVD was America's top-rated series, a status it sustained for the next four seasons. The show's popularity sparked an upsurge in TV westerns, which by 1958 all but dominated the airwaves. In the fall of 1961 YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES DVD COLLECTION, still in its familiar Saturday-night berth, expanded from 30 to 60 minutes; that same year, selected reruns from the 233-episode half-hour version were run by CBS on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM, retitled Marshal Dillon (this version remained on CBS until October 1964).
