Being young and poor is not that much of a problem, being old and poor is a bitch. My advice is sure cut back, way back, on consumerism, but make as much money as you can when you can. Money is freedom, unless you're willing to go the full Kaczynski. This society and its economy are going down the tubes, and life for those without money is going to be short, brutish, and nasty. Think favela. So grab it hand over fist and manage it properly, having that wad in the bank is the most liberating thing you can do.
